Toronto Blue Jays Claim Fall Classic Meeting With defending champion Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

George Springer previously helped the Houston Astros claiming the championship in 2017.

Toronto's Blue Jays earned a spot in their initial Fall Classic following 1993 by defeating the Seattle Mariners in the seventh Game 7 of the AL Championship Series.

Trailing 3-1, the star outfielder smashed a three-run homer in the seventh, propelling the only Canadian franchise in MLB to a 4-3 series victory in the best-of-seven series. Awaiting them are the defending champions, holders of the current crown, in the forthcoming Fall Classic.

"It's incredible for this squad, our city, Canada," said Springer, a star of the Houston Astros team that secured the 2017 World Series. "What an unbelievable moment."

Springer has now hit 23 total October home runs, ranking him third in history after Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).

"There's probably not another person in the world that I want up in that situation besides him with his playoff prowess," noted Schneider.

Seattle's team, after leading the series two games to none and three games to two, remain the only MLB franchise yet to make an appearance in a championship series.

Mariners manager Dan Wilson stated "there's no question that it's going to sting" following his side's defeat at their home ballpark, but applauded their performance throughout the year.

"It's a special team. Unfortunately that we had to come out on the wrong side of the series," he remarked.

Toronto's team won the World Series on each of their earlier trips in the early 90s, and are set to host the Los Angeles in the opener on the upcoming Friday.
