The Mighty Nein, the newest animated series from the beloved role-playing group, unveiled an exciting introductory sequence. It showcases our favorite group of outcasts, outcasts, and criminals fighting hard and making their mark, while teasing at several agonizing backstories for key figures such as the voice actor's wizard Caleb, and Travis Willingham's warlock orc, Fjord.

All in all, the opening appears amazing. But I couldn't help feeling that something was missing in the song choice.

The intro employs "Welcome to Wildemount", a truly stellar song created by artist the talented musician. It's a track originating from the official score of that title, the second release released by Critical Role Productions LLC's record label their music brand. It's a great sentimental choice, and I suspect that fans of the second campaign will appreciate its presence.

Personally, The series' intro fails to capture the hype and energy that accompanied the second campaign's actual-play adventure. "Your Turn to Roll", composed by singer-songwriter the artist, became an immediate hit in my view when it was initially unveiled in that year, and it only got better when cast member Sam Riegel added lyrics to the tune for the series' animated intro in 2018.

Featuring vocals from Ashley Johnson, Laura Bailey, Travis Willingham, as well as Riegel himself, the track was memorable and fun. At the time, I hadn't seen the follow-up series at that point, but it was so infectious that I kept it on my phone. This track that excites you before you dive into an episode of fantasy hijinks.

The show's opening with "the new song" fails to hit the same chords in my opinion. It's an impressive composition, but based on my understanding of the group, I can't help but feel that its tone is a little off.

Naturally, Critical Role has already said that the animated show will have some changes and differences from the original live sessions. A tonal change for its opening seems to be among these.
