Antony Price, the groundbreaking style architect behind many legendary styles worn by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has died at 80 years old.

He was celebrated for his architectural shapes and theatrical styles, most notably the pastel suits that became famous from rock band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "Rio".

"In a tribute, they called him a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement across their platforms."

Price's death comes less than a month after he debuted his most recent collection in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. The performer Lily Allen modelled a dress evoking the iconic black velvet "dress" made famous by Princess Diana.

A Lasting Legacy

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price relocated to London during the sixties to attend the esteemed Royal College of Art.

A year after graduating, he began designing men's fashion at Stirling Copper and was the creator of the tight, button-detailed trousers that rock legend Mick Jagger wore during the iconic group's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He founded his own label in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show featured as its opener outfits on model Jerry Hall, who also wore the marriage dress Price designed for her for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.

Working with Legends

A frequent collaborator of David Bowie, Price created the distinctive jacket the singer wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to fuse menswear and womenswear along with his masterful technique in crafting form-fitting garments made him a "one-of-a-kind talent," as stated by the UK's fashion authority.

By the 1990s, he began working on ensembles for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, including a number of outfits for her US tour following her marriage.

After a career spanning more than five decades, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London just last month in collaboration with the fashion brand 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: The core of his aesthetic.
  • Dramatic Impact: Defining an era of music fashion.
  • Genre-Blending Design: Blurring lines between clothing for men and women.
  • Clients from Stage to Palace: Spanning iconic musicians and members of the royal family.

The fashion world says farewell to a true visionary whose impact on the visual landscape of music remains indelibly etched.
