The English Team to Launch the European Championship 2028 Journey at the Etihad Stadium

England’s men’s team will commence their Euro 2028 adventure at the Manchester City’s stadium, on the condition that they achieve the relatively straightforward entry for a competition hosted across most of the United Kingdom and the Ireland.

Manchester City’s home ground has not staged an English men’s game since eight years ago, when the Turkish team were defeated 2-1 in a warm-up game, but is almost certain to stage the England side for their first match on June 10, 2028.

England are planned to play their last two group stage games at Wembley, but, if they top Group B, their knockout stage opener would take place at the Newcastle stadium. Placing second would mean beginning the elimination stage at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Competition Launch and Rally

The championship was inaugurated at an event in central London on the previous evening. High-ranking officials from Uefa and the host football associations were heckled as they entered the location by about 50 protesters, who demanded the Israeli team to be expelled from international football because of the situation in Gaza.

Placards were raised with messages reading “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while activists called out: “Kick Israel out.”

Championship Schedule

The inaugural fixture of Euro 2028 will be held at the the national stadium of Wales in Cardiff, on a Friday in June 2028, a fixture that will feature Wales if they qualify.

Wembley will host the penultimate rounds and the championship match, which will be staged on Sunday 9 July with a kick-off time at late afternoon.

It is anticipated that an afternoon start, which will also be adopted for European club finals from the following campaign, will appeal to households and help connect with a more diverse set of audiences.

Qualifying Teams

The Irish team are scheduled to play their opening match at the Dublin stadium and the Scottish team would follow suit at the national stadium of Scotland.

Each host nation’s squad will participate in the qualification process; two reserved places will be reserved for any that miss out on the finals through that route.

Locations and Knockout Stage

The Birmingham venue and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium round out the nine tournament locations. Each one will hold at least one elimination game, with the quarterfinal matches played at every host’s main arena.

The draw for the qualifiers will be conducted in Belfast, which was removed as a host city last year when it emerged the proposed venue could not be upgraded in time, on December 6, 2026.

Leadership Comment

“The event will be a championship for the supporters and a celebration of everything we value about the game – its emotion and capacity to unite individuals.”

In excess of three million passes, a unprecedented number for a men’s European Championship, are expected to be offered to fans.
