New Particulars Come to Light Regarding the Location of Rob and Michele Singer Reiner's Bodies
Fresh particulars have surfaced regarding the tragic demises of acclaimed film director Rob Reiner and photographer Michele Singer Reiner, whose remains were located at their Los Angeles home property on Sunday.
The Initial Report
A source indicates citing a confidential source, a therapist scheduled for an appointment was the first to notice something was wrong after failing to get inside the home. The practitioner then contacted the couple's daughter, Romy Reiner, who lives in the vicinity.
When she went into the home, Romy found her father's body. It is said she then exited the property overwhelmed with grief, unaware at that moment that her mother's body was also inside. Her roommate who had accompanied her then dialed 911. Following this, first responders located Michele Singer Reiner's body.
Criminal Developments
The police have formally accused the couple's 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, with two counts of premeditated murder, as well as the use of a dangerous weapon, reportedly a knife. He is presently in custody and denied bail.
Disputed Reports
The person close to the family also disputed several initial details. The source indicated that while Romy Reiner informed emergency responders that her brother Nick resided in a guesthouse on the property, she did not identify him as a suspect at that moment.
The source also pushed back against widely reported suggestions that Rob and Michele Singer Reiner had been unusually "apprehensive" about Nick's conduct in recent weeks. Rather the family was "used to working through [Nick's] problems together."
The statement includes reports of alleged "unpredictable" behavior by Nick at a party thrown by Conan O'Brien the evening prior to the discovery. While the source said they were unable to confirm whether Rob had "rebuked" his son at the party, they maintained that claims of a "major confrontation" between the two were untrue.
Ongoing Inquiry Details
According to law enforcement sources, the medical examiner had still not confirmed at that point whether the Reiners died late on Saturday or on Sunday. Preliminary accounts noted the condition of their bodies implied they had been dead for some hours.
Nick Reiner was taken into custody at around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday in the neighbourhood of Exposition Park, about 15 miles from the family home. He was set to appear in court on Tuesday, but his legal counsel, Alan Jackson, said his client had not been medically cleared and would not be present until Wednesday at the earliest.
