Man Who Grabbed Ariana Grande at Movie Premiere Banned from Singapore
A man from Australia who jumped past a barrier and reached for actress Ariana Grande has been expelled and barred from Singapore.
Johnson Wen, 26, was given a sentence to nine days in detention for being a public nuisance and has now been "prohibited from returning to Singapore," the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority stated to Singaporean press.
He forced his way beyond security and rushed toward the performer and artist, who was attending the regional launch for Wicked: For Good on the thirteenth of November. Co-star Cynthia Erivo intervened to remove him from Grande.
Wen has a history of causing disturbances at events and high-profile gatherings, including jumping on stage at Katy Perry's Sydney concert in this summer.
The occurrence caused anger in Singapore, with several individuals saying he of causing further distress to the star.
The pop star has spoken of experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder after a explosive incident at her concert in the UK city in spring of 2017 killed 22 people and hurt numerous attendees.
Throughout the court proceedings, the court heard he had made efforts to breach on the film's premiere on two occasions, according to regional reports.
He then made a second attempt to cross the barriers. Event security intercepted him and pinned him down.
He then uploaded video clips appreciating the celebrity for letting him on the carpet and said he was "at liberty."
Authorities took him into custody the following day and accused him with causing a disturbance, to which he confessed.
The District Judge the judicial official was referenced by Channel News Asia as saying that Wen was "attention seeking", noting that he was wrong to assume he would not face any penalties.
The actress has not addressed the incident.
The co-star spoke about the situation to the press, remarking that she "simply desired to ensure my co-star was protected."
"I'm sure he didn't intend us injury, but you cannot be certain with those things, and I aimed to confirm that she was alright. That was my initial reaction," she commented.
