Line of Duty Announced for Seventh Season on the British Broadcaster
The acclaimed crime series AC-12 will make a comeback for its 7th installment, confirmed by the BBC.
A brand new six-episode series written by the show's creator will begin filming in Northern Ireland this spring, as confirmed by the network.
Vicky McClure shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, stating she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Her co-star remarked, "How wonderful it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming together soon."
The last series concluded in 2021 with a finale that attracted over 17 million audience members. Speculation about a new season have been widespread ever since, but official word only arrived this week.
Fresh Obstacles for The Team
Series seven begins with the anti-corruption unit having been disbanded and rebranded as the new police oversight body, according to the announcement.
Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Ted Hastings continue tasked to combat misconduct within the law enforcement.
The team's mission "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, these officers are assigned their "most sensitive case to date."
Fresh Face and Complex Case
An additional officer, DI Dominic Gough, described as a charismatic officer known for takedowns of organized crime, is accused of abusing his position to act as a sexual predator.
However, this investigation could be a intentional diversion from a larger danger still operating in the background, plot details hinted.
In a statement, Jed Mercurio commented: "Everyone involved are deeply thankful to the dedicated viewers."
"It's an honor to have had countless fans watch the developments of AC-12 over multiple series and we are thrilled to be coming back for a new season."
Mercurio continued: "Misconduct in this country was thought to be over while Line of Duty was off air, so I've been compelled to use my creativity."
Actor Responses
Martin Compston described appearing in the series as "a job of a lifetime".
"Beyond the program's popularity but the colleagues I've collaborated with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I'm excited to wear the uniform again and reunite with everyone," he added.
Vicky McClure stated: "It goes without saying I'm so excited the show is back! Eager to work with Jed, Martin and Dunbar again. The city, we'll be there shortly!"
The veteran actor commented: "As we count down the AC-12 days of Christmas, what a joy it is to know that the central trio will be working together soon."
"Delighted with the announcement and anticipating those unexpected plot developments."
Series Legacy
Line of Duty launched in the early 2010s and became one of the most popular television series of the last decade, featuring guest stars such as Stephen Graham.
Broadcasters haven't revealed when the upcoming series will premiere.
The finale of series six brought the long-running storyline about the hunt for criminal mastermind known as "H" to a close, and the creative team indicated at the time there were no intentions for additional seasons.
Nevertheless, the network confirmed on Tuesday that a seventh series is now in development.
