JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution Seeks to Fix the Anime's Biggest Issue

JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution is not precisely an original feature. Rather, the recent cinematic release from the Jujutsu Kaisen fantasy saga acts as a recap of the anime's second season merged with the first two episodes of its upcoming season, which begins the Culling Games storyline from the source material. This positions Execution, which has been given a new trailer, the quickest way to view the commencement of the upcoming season ahead of its 2026 January debut. The feature launches in cinemas in Japan starting November 7, and in North American regions on December 5.

The Culling Games Plot

In the Culling Game arc, Elite sorcerer Yuta Okkotsu finally joins the show and is assigned by sorcery authorities to eliminate his peer Yuji Itadori. Their highly anticipated battle unfolds for the first time on the silver screen, and if the animation team at the production house have a treat as installments 40 and 41 prepared for viewers this festive season, JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution may prove to be the surprise that everyone has hoped for.

The Thunderclap Debate

"Thunderclap" from the second season is widely regarded as a top-tier scene in the history of anime, notwithstanding the major issues in 2023 when the installments originally aired. It was claimed that the animation team were facing crunch conditions to the degree, and the final version that premiered at the time was incomplete and allegedly not what the artists originally planned.

The Legendary Fight

The scene features a long-awaited battle between two elite magic wielders, Sukuna and Mahoraga. It includes innovative art style, superb cinematography, and dynamic fight choreography. A later Blu-ray release provided an opportunity to add additional scenes to enhance the conflict. So it seemed possible Execution could improve the battle even more. However, looking at the latest preview, it's difficult to determine if that battle has been given extra attention. It'd be a letdown if it didn't, because a moment so epic has to be watched on the largest display with the optimal viewing experience.

Season Two Success

The second season of JuJutsu Kaisen propelled the series to become the award-winning series of 2024, and when episodes 40 and 41 were premiered one after another, it was the subject of discussion for multiple weeks in the animation fandom. Fans knew about the issues behind the scenes, which made them appreciate what they viewed even more. People clamored to see if the disc version, launched in mid-March, would feature extra content to the battle or to see if it was refined somewhat, and were thrilled to see precisely that, alongside color corrections, smoother movement, and different color grading.

The Film's Potential

But the physical release can only refine what has already been presented in the original airing, whereas the cinematic experience has the opportunity to fully realize the scene with additional alterations and new animations entirely.

A Magnum Opus

Currently, these pair of installments represent the magnum opus of JuJutsu Kaisen, and should be treated as such by the animation team, particularly given the issues they underwent at the time. It's garnered the attention of anime fans all over the planet, and the Culling Games is a highly awaited story of the coming year. If the production company wants to start the year off right, run back the show's top scene once again in movie houses with the ultimate presentation we've witnessed to date.
