An individual who spiked candy with sleeping medication and distributed them to children at a summer camp in the area has confessed to sexual offences against two young males who were nine and ten years old.

The accused was taken into custody after eight minors and one adult fell ill at the facility in the summer month.

The 76-year-old, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, pleaded guilty to a multiple criminal counts when he appeared at the courthouse on recently.

However, he refused to admit one particular crime he was facing, which was concerning a nine-year-old boy.

The defendant was kept in jail ahead of a additional proceeding on November 28th.

'Candy game'

Mary Prior KC, prosecuting, detailed the criminal behavior to the court.

She said his targets were disadvantaged youngsters who were participating in a summer program which he managed.

The defendant conducted a "sweet game" with the minors, the legal counsel stated, in which he would access the children's bedrooms when they were preparing to sleep and request they to ingest treats "as quickly as they can".

She informed the proceedings the man had conducted this practice with the young males "for many years", and minors had previously become sick the following morning.

She said the man had been capable of justifying this over a long period as the children being "overexcited from fun", until his stepson had suspicions in summer 2025.

The legal representative added: "In the summer" his stepson had worries about what was going on, with valid cause.

"They decided to have a look in the man's possessions."

The legal counsel explained materials including lubricant, Vaseline and injection devices were found, and his stepson alerted the law enforcement about his worries.

She explained the man continued to conduct the "treat game" with six boys that night - Saturday 26 July - and they were all sick the following morning.

"The police had not gone out by that time," she added.

The oversight body, the police conduct office, earlier informed that it was investigating the police response of the events.

The prosecutor stated the youngsters were unable to walk properly due to being ill, so the family member notified the authorities a second time.

She said Ruben then conducted the "candy game" in a area of five minors.
