Battlefield 6's Casual Game Mode Ignites Heated Discussions Regarding Bots, Experience Points, and Queue Times

Recently, the game developers introduced a new playlist titled Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this option mirrors the standard Breakthrough setup but features several key changes:

  • Each team has only eight human participants, with the rest made up of AI-controlled opponents.
  • Actions done by human gamers award full XP, while AI activities provide reduced XP.
  • Just a pair of maps are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
  • Features like Dogtags, accolades, and stat tracking are disabled.

So essentially, this mode lives up to its name: it offers a casual version of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume it's a good idea, as it gives more options for gamers looking for alternative methods to enjoy the title. However, gaming history have taught us anything, it's that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, a lot of BF6 players are upset.

Player Reactions: From Fury to Praise

"Gamers prefer real players. Don't repeat the mistakes of your rivals," states one reply to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking concept," comments a different user. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user remarks, "I have no idea where we are going with this game," and someone else lists all the issues they consider to be problematic in the game: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."

On the other hand, for every complaint, there are players sharing how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to warm up, human participants keep it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," says a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are players who actually go outside and can't play this game all the time. Allow them to find a middle ground," states a different comment. One reply on Twitter explains that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is great for me," and another praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Valid Criticisms and Player Feedback

Despite the support, there are constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have pointed out that it could increase wait times even longer for different playlists due to the large amount of options in the game already. Similarly, certain regions already encounter AI-filled matches in the current modes. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a required amount of human gamers, even though it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.

Lastly, one of the biggest complaints is that Battlefield Portal was promised to provide complete rewards, even against bots, but that got canned when they attempted to eliminate XP farming from the system. Thus this new playlist feels like the community meeting them in the middle, as per forum feedback. A different user describes this addition as the developers "dropping the ball significantly, I experienced so much fun in the first couple of days, what prompted them to change it?"

Looking Ahead: Adjustments Be Made?

If Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something so far with the latest installment, it is that they're paying attention and responding to player input. Assignments being too difficult were adjusted very quickly, just like the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, should analytics indicates this recent mode isn't performing to their standards, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
