Arne Slot Asserts He Is Safe and Has Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Loss

Arne Slot acknowledged that it was expected for concerns to be raised about his future after another heavy defeat against PSV Eindhoven.

The Reds endured their ninth defeat in 12 matches, marking the club's worst run after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.

They were taken apart by the Eredivisie title holders on a difficult evening at Anfield.

“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I have got plenty of backing from above,” Slot remarked.

“It would be great to reverse this trend and get a victory of course but when you're coaching a team and not doing well then it is normal that people question you.”

He noted, “I am OK with my situation. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a tough spot but it is about time that we improved our results.”

Discussions with The Board

When asked to provide details on his conversations with the team officials, the head coach revealed:

“We talk a lot. They are supportive for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me all the time each day to say they have faith in me.”

He mentioned, “In the normal exchanges I perceive the confidence. But I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat yet so we'll see.”

Recurring Problems and Squad Response

Slot highlighted recurring failings from his squad in their European loss, namely poor finishing and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, player Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.

“I haven't got the solutions. Honestly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everyone,” the midfielder stated.

“It is unacceptable. I don't need to wait to reflect. I’m past getting mad internally. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”

He went on, “It’s hard because I play for the team I support. I support them, and I’ve seen Liverpool since I was young.”

“For many years, I've not seen a Liverpool team enduring a phase like this with outcomes like these.”

Jones concluded, “However we continue to wear the emblem on our chest. And until that badge is taken away, we’re always going to battle.”

“We will attempt to bring this squad return to its rightful place, demonstrate to all again what this club is about and the reason it's called the best team in the planet.”

“However currently, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
